Abstract

Purpose: to describe cryotherapy as a therapeutic resource for decreasing drooling in children with neuromotor involvement.

Methods: a case report of a three year and eight months old boy. After an initial evaluation, during a couple of months an daily ice stimulation was done around and in mouth structures. At the end of two month period the child were reevaluated. Both evaluations were recorded to be data reliable.

Results: it was observed that the amount of saliva during rest decreased combined with the improvement of lip seal as pureed food feeding with a spoon administrated and reducing lost of food in the edges of the mouth.

Conclusion: the efficacy of cryotherapy was shown to reduce the amount of saliva flow as well as oromotor functions and feeding improvements.
