The phonoaudiological improvement in a child with dysphagia suffering hypoxemic injuries after drowning: case report

Resumo
Objetivo: descrever a intervenção fonoaudiológica em um caso de disfagia por hipoxia após afogamento.
Métodos: relato de caso de uma criança de sete anos e quatro meses portadora de disfunção neuromotora do tipo tetraplegia espástica, com quadro de disfagia severo, discutindo as propostas terapêuticas utilizadas para melhora do quadro.
Resultados: após quinze meses de terapia a paciente passou a se alimentar exclusivamente por via oral, tendo o quadro de disfagia evoluído de severo para moderadamente leve.
Conclusão: apesar da gravidade do caso, com as técnicas fonoterápicas utilizadas, foi possível observar melhora da funcionalidade da deglutição.

Abstract
Purpose: to describe the phonoaudiological intervention in a dysphagia case caused by hypoxia after drowning.
Methods: case report of a seven-year and four-month-old child with spastic tetraplegia neuromotor dysfunction and severe dysphagia, discussing the therapeutic approaches used to improve the condition.
Results: after fifteen months of therapy the patient started to feed exclusively by oral route, with the dysphagia evolving from severe to moderately mild.
Conclusion: despite the severity of the case, with the speech therapy techniques used, it was possible to observe improvement in swallowing functionality.
